Dave Green aka DJ Verdi

Sundeck SUP BBQ & Beats - Saturday 27th at 6:00 pm

David Green aka Verdi has been a directly involved in dance music for over 25 years. He was responsible for both organising and performing at seminal UK club night Cultural Vibes in Plymouth during the first half of the nineties and has been peddling his take on dance music the world over ever since. Cultural Vibes started in 1992 at the Quay Club and ran until the middle of 1995 following an inspired venue change to the hallowed Warehouse, a vast pre war Art Deco Cinema.

During its record-breaking run it made DJ Magazines Top Ten Clubs in the UK for over 14 months. Throughout 1993 – 1995 over 2000 people came each and every Saturday night making Cultural Vibes one of the biggest underground clubs in the country during the absolute peak of club culture in the UK. During this time Verdi was booked to play his brand of dirty edged house music at clubs all over the UK and throughout Europe.

Following Cultural Vibes Verdi spent 5 years in London from 1996-2001 where he continued to play regularly all over the Capital, countrywide and throughout Europe. During this period Verdi primarily played Electro and Techno as he found himself well served by great record distributors in London.

As always he collected prolifically and for a while became the only resident Dj @ Metalheadz never to play drum and bass (he played real Electro).
Following an extended round the world trip started in 2003 Dave emigrated to New Zealand in 2005 where he remains to this day.

In Auckland he was the long term resident DJ @ Soul, The Crow Bar & Suite, as well as playing at many other venues as a guest DJ during his 5 years there. Verdi could also be found regularly promoting his own nights on The Coromandel Peninsula during the summer months where he was based.

Following a move to the Wellington region in 2010 he has since been a long term resident DJ at most of the best venues in New Zealand’s Capital City including The Southern Cross, Foxglove, Malthouse, The Apartment, St Johns, BATS Theatre & Matterhorn. On top of this he has also been a regular guest for New Zealands finest techno night Emergence & the resident DJ & Promotor for another of the cities forward thinking dance nights Noir Desir.

Since his arrival on the Kapiti Coast he has also been the seven year resident DJ for The Waterfront @ Raumati Beach & currently plays records every Thursday & Friday evenings for what is easily the finest Sunset Beach Bar/Restaurant in NZ.

In 2011 Verdi started producing a weekly radio show on Wellington’s FM institution RadioActive.FM.¬†Originally employed as a replacement host of “The Late Breakfast Show”, after 2 years Verdi was then promoted up the order to the flagship Saturday evening 4-7pm slot which he renamed Collective Fetish.¬†Collective Fetish continues to go from strength to strength with a burgeoning listening base across New Zealand & online to the planet & beyond via www.radioactive.co.nz.

Still primarily a vinyl based DJ, Verdi covers much musical ground with his live sets these days. While club gigs will see him play the very best in House, Deep House, Techno & Disco/Discoid Hybrids, a 6hr Bar set could see him seamlessly jog between 50’s Jazz, 70’s Breaks, 80’s oddball rarities & everything else in between. The real common ground would be quality production, which is all-important to earn a place in the Verdi record box.
